S3P 2015 Tutorial 5
Processing Large Complex Data, Dr. Yiannis Kompatsiaris, CERTH, Thessaloniki (GR)
This tutorial will cover theoretical and practical aspects of real-time multimedia indexing and search across multiple social media sources. It will place particular emphasis on the real-time, social and contextual nature of content and information consumption in order to integrate topic and event detection, mining, search and retrieval, based on aggregation and indexing of shared user-generated multimedia content. The tutorial will discuss both enabling widely-used open technologies, such as MongoDB, Solr, and Storm and scalable analysis algorithms. It will include approaches for social media content verification and prediction of real-life phenomena such as elections.
Applications for the News and Events domains will be demonstrated, that have been developed based on these approaches, incorporating novel user-centric media visualisation and browsing methods.
